Vitamin D is a fat soluble vitamin and it can be acquired eithe rby ingestion or by exposure to sunlight. It is known as the sunshine vitamin because the action of the sun's ultraviolet rays activates a form of cholesterol, which is prescent in the skin, converting it to vitamin D.
