Product Information

Blis K12 contains naturally occuring bacteria, which has been proven to maintain throat health by supporting the natural defences against undesirable bacteria.

Bad breath
Trials have also shown that the use of BLIS K12 on chronic bad breath sufferers resulted in the majority of subjects achieving significant improvement in breath scores.
Recently published research has shown that people with healthy breath typically have high levels of the beneficial oral bacterium Streptococcus salivarius living on their tongue, whereas people with bad breath either have low levels or no Streptococcus salivarius and their tongues instead become inhabited with problem-causing bacteria responsible for bad breath (1).

A new approach to the long term prevention of bad breath is to REBALANCE the oral micro flora by firstly reducing the number of undesirable bacteria that live in the mouth with a potent antibacterial mouthwash, and then recolonising with the beneficial oral bacteria, Streptococcus salivarius K12 to help prevent regrowth of the malodour bacteria. Research trials have shown that use of BLIS K12 results in a significant improvement in healthy breath scores for the majority of subjects(2).

Dosage: For best results in maintaining throat health use the three day course as directed, and repeat monthly.

Bad breath sufferers typically require a higher dose regime due to the need to overcome an entrenched undesirable bacterial population responsible for bad breath. Also typically there are underlying reasons why halitosis sufferers have 'lost' the normal bacterial population (lack of saliva, certain medications, post nasal drip), and so they generally require more regular doses of BLIS K12.

This higher dosing can be achieved by taking a maintenance dose of two lozenges a day throughout the rest of the month or alternatively good results have also recently been achieved by taking the 3 day high dose regime at the start of the month and then using a second pack for a one day (antibacterial mouthwash in the morning and 4 lozenges throughout the day) top up each subsequent week. This one further pack is then sufficient for 3 weeks. The weekly one day 'pulsing' of the high dose appears to be as effective as the daily maintenance but requires only two packs for a full month’s coverage.

TIPS to maximise effectiveness in preventing bad breath:

  • First brush your tongue (gently) to remove any coating, so that the antibacterial mouthwash can 'get at' the undesirable bacteria that live between the fibres that make up the surface of the tongue.
  • Swirl the antibacterial mouthwash over the tongue and gargle in the back of the throat before spitting out - the longer the better.
  • Allow 2 hours for the antibacterial activity to diminish, before taking the first K12 lozenge.
  • Suck the lozenges slowly - rubbing them across the tongue. The longer they remain in the mouth the better the colonisation.
  • Continue to brush your tongue daily. This helps remove the food source that the undesirable bacteria metabolise. Surface tongue brushing has little effect on the desired Streptococcus salivarius population.
